While it was raining like hell today I made this video. The background noise is the rain.

I've seen this somewhere before! (MIMF) Great job Chris. I love the simplicity of the construction and the outstanding results it delivers.

The Jigmeister does it again!

A simple, elegant solution to a longstanding problem, and beautifully done.

Thank you for sharing this solution...

I am left with a question however.

What do you use to continue sanding things up to the fine grits so you can maintain your radii?

Thank you,

John Chase

Great tut, Chris! I always learn a lot when I watch your videos. I have no mechanical background, so I would love to see how you modify a refrigerator compressor to be a vacuum pump!

I have not heard of this before so I searched for "refrigerator compressor vacuum" at youtube and there are lots of videos on the subject

Nice if you have one, but you don't need a large stationary belt sander. The jig I designed along the same principle, and built about 2 years ago, is based on a hand-held beltsander (Makita 9924 DB). The only other difference is that instead of vacuum clamping I use double sided tape to hold the fretboard blank. Because of the limited length of the sander, the f.b. has to be moved back and forth over the jig which therefor has a total length of 1,15 m (45 1/4")

Henk,
That looks like it would work great!
That takes up less space than my sander, but I love my sander! It's funny how ideas change & flip-flop from one idea to the next! When I have trouble figuring something out, I turn it upside down and completely look at it another way! That looks like that's what you did!
